PGI Dive Club Minutes of March 3, 2010
Name tags were distributed to those in attendance, each meeting we will pick up our name tag and then turn it in at the end of the meeting.

Our club has decided to call itself the PGI Dive Club.

Our dive club has its own article space now in the Commentator, look for it each month.

We have agreed that the regular monthly meeting will take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the PGICA building. Emails will be sent out a few days prior to our regularly scheduled meetings to remind our members of the importance for them to attend and participate in our club.

We have selection (nominated) Frank to be President, Barbara to be Secretary, and Don “Bergie” to be Treasurer as officers until an election takes place at the end of this year. We are still in need of a VP to accomplish the criteria required by the civic association as well as the bank, in order to open an account.

Discussion took place about our Waiver form and why we need it. Also, a discussion went off to discuss why member boat owners who wish to take others out to dive need to think about the risk they may take on.

Our PGI Dive Club website will be developed and administered by Doug Jones. Hosting of the website will be provided through GoDaddy.com with an annual costs determined by how we will set up our website…in the range of $75-$150. The website is on hold until we establish a checking account and members dues are submitted.

Dues will be $15.00 per individual, with additional assessments possible, as we determine the needs of our club. Our budget, in the clubs infancy, will continue to be a work in progress.

Club membership ID cards will be made by Marilyn Jorgensen, and will be designed after a logo is accepted. ID cards may provide the members with reduced price diving charges with selected dive charter operators.

Our Logo will be selected by a decision from art work that Skip Reed has volunteered to supply for review from scuba clip artwork. This logo will be incorporated into diving apparel, membership cards, stationary, website, etc. in the future.

We agreed that the club could offer (non-mandatory) participation in 50/50’s and assorted other “raffles” for fund raising sources for our treasury. This will hopefully accomplish keeping dues and assessments to a minimum.

Safety tips were provided to remind members to get their equipment checked and reconditioned, and to keep tanks up to date with viz inspections and hydro checks as required. Also, members were encouraged to get themselves into good physical shape for the upcoming diving season.

Nitrox certification was recommended for all members. Courses are readily available at nominal costs at local dive shops.

Local dive shop calendars, trips, events, and seminars were presented for the members to consider attending.

Tentative discussion for planning a morning Venice Beach Dive around April, an afternoon Pompano Drift Dive also that month, and participation in an all day dive charter out of Fort Myers on the Sea Trek, sometime in May.

Next meeting topics will include constitution/bylaw committee formation; waiver discussion; and hopefully selection of a VP--all necessary requisites for the formation of our club under the umbrella of the PGICA.
