PGI Dive Club Minutes of August 23, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Secretary's Report: Minutes from the 6/28/2012 meeting were read and approved with no corrections.

Treasurer's Report: Frank presented the report in Skip's absence. Our current balance is $731.11 . We have no outstanding bills. We also have credit with Keys Dive and Snorkel in Key Largo for 12 divers for one Sunday trip, which we should use ASAP, so as not to lose it. Club treasurer's report was accepted.

Membership: Four new members were in attendance. We welcomed Mark Anderson, John McFarland, and Scott and Kathryn Morris.

Old Business: Ten members have signed up to help with the PGICA Backyard BBQ on Sept. 19th. A band called Brown Suga will be playing at the event. The cost of the BBQ will be paid for by the civic association. $5.00 and a dish are required to buy tickets at the PGICA office. The BBQ meat will be a catered affair. Report of the July Key Largo trip were made by Connie and Ken Bowling. We discussed again the issue of purchasing an Oxygen tank for emergencies. Eddie Beezley said that we would be able to buy a tank for $80. Frank mentioned how much of this summer's beach diving has been cancelled due to terrible viz off the beach in Venice.

New Business: We need to thank Bob and Cate Peterson for their donation of an Oxygen tank from DAN to the civic association for the club to use. This is valued at $500. Frank brought up the fact that since our treasury has what he feels is a sufficient amount to cover club deposits that we consider dropping the $25 annual dues fee back to a lower amount. He suggested possibly $10, but some members thought that was too low. The club will discuss and decide on this at the September meeting. Frank has arranged to get Mike Campbell, Senior Environmental Specialist Lee County Department of Natural Resources - Marine Division, to speak at our October 25th meeting about the sinking of the 165' USCG cutter Mohawk, which was sunk on July 2nd, 30 miles off of Sanibel. This meeting will be open to all and may be held in the big room.

Dive Calendar: September's beach dive will also be cancelled due to poor viz conditions up in Venice. Frank and Vanessa will be checking with operators for an October club dive either on the East Coast, Key Largo, or Tavernier. Frank will survey the club members via email as to how many will be interested in this event. Check the website calendar for information and dive schedules.

Next meeting: Next meeting is September27th. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM
