PGI Dive Club Minutes of November 13, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Frank Panhuise

Secretary's Report: No minutes were read since we just had the Mohawk program at last months' meeting and no business meeting was held. Frank noted that this program was the best one we have ever had with over 70 people in attendance.

Treasurer's Report: Balance in the treasury is $1398.18. As it stands now, the hotel credit we have with the Holiday Inn of Key Largo for the April 2013 trip is $1606.56. We also have dedicated funds in the treasury for the Keys Diver and Snorkel Center in the approximate amount of over $400 towards the April trip. Club treasurer's report was approved as read.

Membership: We had one new member join the club. We welcome Phil Herron to our club.

Old Business: We will have our club social on Thursday, Nov. 15th at 6pm at Beef O'Brady's in Punta Gorda. Notify Frank if you plan on attending.

There are currently 8 divers signed up and paid for the Key Largo dives April 27 and 28 of next year. Hotel check in will be April 26. Any more members who may now be planning to join that trip should now notify Frank and send him the funds to pay for the trip ($130 per diver for two days of two tank diving with air and weights provided.) Also, it needs to be noted that the Holiday Inn may raise their rates by the dates of this trip and all members who previously paid and have a credit an may be hit with a slightly higher fee to cover. New attendees may also be able to reserve rooms at our clubs' contracted rate also.

An agenda item from the last meeting was discussed and approved by all present concerning membership dues for the dive club. It was unanimously voted to keep the dues at the current rate of $25/person/year. Consensus was that having a reserve to make trip deposits, plan social events, etc., made the current membership fee a better option now, rather than decreasing the amount. It was also recommended by the members that new members joining during the year should pay a prorated quarterly fee for the remainder of the year. The $10 name tag fee for new members would stay the same.

The PGICA Backyard BBQ in September was well attended by over 130 members of the civic association. Frank read a thank you card sent to the dive club from Marlene Hofer, one of the directors of the PGICA, for sponsoring this event. Details of the Happening on the Harbor event for this coming weekend were reviewed. New Business: Our annual Christmas club party will be held at Denis and Vanessa Cournoyers home on Sunday, December 16th. An email with details will be sent out to club members to communicate and coordinate directly with Vanessa. At our January meeting, we will reorganize our club officers for 2013, dues will be due, and everyone will again be signing waivers for the PGICA . Frank will send out emails concerning these topics.

Members are encouraged to take scuba classes in the "off diving season" now to take additional courses that may include, Advanced Diver, Nitrox, Rescue, Oxygen Provider, etc.

Dive Calendar: Club dive in Key Largo on April 27th and 28th. The boat will hold 18 people, so please contact Frank Panhuise if interested. Reservations at the Holiday Inn are available at a reduced rate for divers on this trip.

Next Meeting: January 24th. Meeting was adjourned at 8 pm.
